Nick Barbour (Danville, Va./George Washington) has been named Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week along with Coastal Carolina's Joseph Harris, the conference announced Monday. Barbour scored 38 points, including 10-for-11 from three-point range, in HPU's 104-72 win over UNC Pembroke on Saturday.
In addition to Barbour's 10-for-11 three-point shooting, he went 13-of-16 overall from the floor. He scored 20 points in the first half and 18 in the second half. He finished the game making his final nine three-point attempts, including all six of his attempts in the second half. His 90.9 three-point percentage is the highest in a single-game in Big South history. Barbour also had two assists, two rebounds and two steals on the night.
A Big South All-Freshman selection a year ago, Barbour led HPU with 14.2 points per game in his rookie season. In 18 Big South games, Barbour averaged 15.6 points and 2.7 rebounds in 28.9 minutes. He started the final 12 games of the season, averaging 21.4 points on 43.3 percent shooting, including 39.5 percent 3-point shooting, in 35.1 minutes.
Harris recorded his 31st career double-double with 21 points and 17 rebounds in the Chanticleers' 70-59 win over SoCon South Division preseason favorite College of Charleston Friday night. Radford guard Blake Smith was named The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week after 17 points and eight rebounds in his collegiate debut, a 76-65 Radford win over Navy.
Barbour and the Panthers play Wake Forest on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C. It will be the seventh all-time meeting between HPU and Wake Forest.
