The men's and women's basketball office suite in the Millis Center is undergoing a major upgrade this summer thanks to a $120,000 renovation funded by the High Point University Panther Club. The project will make it a first-class area for basketball coaches and student-athletes.

High Point University graduate Akeem Scott was named to the Jamaican National Team and recently played in Centrobasket, a FIBA tournament featuring teams from Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Scott played basketball for the Panthers from 2004-06 and ranks third on HPU's all-time steals list.

Incoming freshman Du'Vaughn Maxwell nearly posted a triple-double to lead the East All-Stars to a 98-73 victory over the West in the Virginia High School Coaches Association All-Star boys' basketball game on July 5 in Hampton, Va. Maxwell had 16 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks.

The season will start early – but with a Caribbean twist – for the High Point University men's basketball team. The Panthers are taking a trip to the Bahamas from August 7-12 and will play two games against local competition.

The High Point University men's basketball team will host Wake Forest University at the Millis Center on December 7, 2011, Athletic Director Craig Keilitz and head coach Scott Cherry have announced. It will be the first time High Point has ever hosted a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
