Opened in 1992, the Millis Athletic and Convocation Center is considered one of the best facilities for men's and women's basketball and volleyball in the Big South. HPU hosted the Big South Women's Basketball Tournament an unprecedented four times in a row from 2008-11 and saw the tournament return to High Point in 2019. The Millis Center hosted men's basketball tournament games in 2005, '06, '07, '08, '12 and '18. HPU has hosted the Big South Volleyball Tournament at the Millis Center twice, in 2000 and in 2015.
President George W. Bush visited HPU and spoke in the Millis Center in July 2002. Often host of regionally-televised men's and women's basketball games, the Millis Center underwent a major renovation that included a new floor, seating, the addition of four state-of-the-art video boards and a new sound system in 2008.
The volleyball team locker room was renovated in 2009 and the men's and women's basketball locker rooms were refurbished in 2012. In the summer of 2010, the men's and women's basketball office suite underwent a complete renovation. The offices were renovated again in 2018 along with the locker rooms for both basketball programs. The Millis Center also houses a swimming pool and athletic training and strength & conditioning areas.
