HIGH POINT, N.C. - Jeff LaCoste is part of a talented men's cross country senior class looking to lead the program to its second straight Big South Championship title. The Amherst, N.H., native is a business administration major and looks to being a career in marketing upon graduation.

High Point University

1) Why did you choose High Point University?
"When I visited, I loved what I saw on campus. I wanted to go to school in the South and I found out about HPU through my high school coach whose daughter – Kelsey Hunt – also ran cross country here. I heard nothing but good things. It was an up and coming school with an up and coming cross country/track & field program and I knew that's where I wanted to be."

2) What's your favorite place on campus?
"Probably the Café. I spend most of my time there and it's one of the places I'm most excited to be at during the day. I also really like the Point at the Wanek Center."

Cross Country

3) What are some of your best memories from your XC career at HPU?
"Last year, when we won the Big South Championship as a team for the first time, as well as individually. It was the first win of my collegiate career and my parents were able to make it. It reminded me of days in the Northeast when it was 38 degrees and raining. It's definitely my best memory so far."

4) What's on your warm-up mix on Spotify/iPhone, etc.?
"I listen to a mixture. Sometimes I like to be relaxed and sometimes I like to be pumped up. I'll listen to hip hop, like Nelly, or electric dance music. Other times I'll listen to slow rock music or alternative music. It depends on my mood. I'll be pumped up at Big South on Saturday, so it will definitely be a loud rap day."

5) What's your favorite place you've run in your life?
"Being out in California in Balboa Park is an experience I'll never forget. It was the Foot Locker National High School Championship that included the top-40 runners in the U.S. They flew us out to San Diego and we stayed at the Hotel Coronado on the beach. Racing under palm trees during December was an unbelievable experience."

6) If you could run anywhere in the world, which would you choose?
"There are so many runners who have been to Colorado to run, including Paddy and Vinny who never stop talking about it. So I'd choose Colorado, or if it was outside the U.S., I'd pick Kenya or Ethiopia to see how they train out there."

7) Did you have a running idol that you've looked up to during your career?
"I've always looked up to Leonel Manzano. We have a similar physique and body structure. I like to follow runners I can relate to and who I feel I'm similar to."

8) How did you get into running?
"I ran track in eighth grade, but I really got into it in high school when I played men's soccer and would do Indian sprints. The cross country coach would always see me in the lead pack of the soccer players, so he had the cross country runners convince me to join the team. I qualified for the freshman national championship in spring track and decided to run year round after that."

Team Superlatives

9) Funniest on the team?
"There are three guys who are funny in different ways. Benji's sarcasm is hilarious and Ryan's impressions of other people can be really funny. He can do a good Alejandro or Coach Esposito. And not everything Chernet says is funny, but he talks so much, eventually something that comes out of his mouth will be entertaining."

10) Most likely to succeed?
"Paddy is constantly working hard and he always does the right things. He's committed and dedicated not only to running, but to his school work and other things. He's always on top of everything."

11) Best dressed?
"I consider myself the best dressed on the team and Cody confirmed that in his 20 Questions, so I think it's true. The worst dressed is most recently Paddy. He's been wearing his black sweat pants with boat shoes and a button down shirt."

12) If you were stranded on a desert island and could pick one teammate to help you, who would you choose?
"I'd pick either Alejandro or Chernet. Alejandro would keep telling me not to worry and Chernet is so worldly, he would understand what to do."

Pop Culture

13) Favorite movie? Favorite scary movie?
"My favorite movies are the Jason Bourne series. And my favorite scary movie is Insidious. I saw it for the first time a couple years ago and it was scarier than any other movie I've seen."

14) Favorite TV show?
"I watched the whole series of 'Game of Thrones' this summer and I can't wait for the next season of it to come out this spring."

15) Favorite Halloween candy?
"Candy corn and Whoppers are my favorite. I can go through a bag of each of those in a day. I'll feel pretty sick afterwards but it's worth it."

16) Favorite Boston sports moment?
"There's so many. But most recently, the Patriots winning the Super Bowl and Malcolm Butler's interception is probably my favorite."

Miscellaneous

17) People always say you have a bad sense of direction. What is the scariest place you've been lost?
"I don't think there's anywhere scary I've been lost. I don't get lost as much as everyone says I do. I always get teased for that one time I told the team to meet in the wrong spot. I think my sense of direction is underestimated. I'm much better than they realize."

18) If you could invite three people, living or dead, to 1924 Prime, who would they be and why?
"I'd pick Tom Brady, because I've watched him play every Sunday for most of my life. I'd pick Kevin Hart, because he's hilarious and it's always good to have someone funny to talk to at dinner. And I'd pick Mila Kunis, not only because she's extremely attractive, but because she seems like she'd be really cool and down to earth and someone you could have a good conversation with."

19) If Hollywood were to make a movie about your life, who would you want to play you and why?
"I'd pick Ashton Kutcher. I don't know why, I just think he'd do a great job. He doesn't get too serious and tends to enjoy every moment."

20) Who's your personal hero?
"My parents are my personal heroes. They've always given me great advice and they've provided me with so much in my life."
