Incoming freshman DeAnneisha Jackson of the High Point University women's basketball team took part in the N.C. Coaches Association East-West All-Star game on Monday in Greensboro, N.C. Jackson was named the game's MVP, helping the East beat the West 67-60.
Jackson started for the East All-Stars and tied for the team lead with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor. She also went 2-for-2 at the free-throw line while grabbing seven rebounds and three steals.
Jackson is the sixth HPU player in the last six years to take part in the East-West Game. Cheyenne Parker played in the game in 2010, Jazmin Cromartie in 2009, Shamia Brown in 2008 and Amy Dodd and Jurica Hargraves in 2007. Katie Ralls also played in the game in 2003.
The 6-foot, 2-inch forward joins HPU form Harnett Central High School in Angier, N.C. Jackson was a McDonald's All-American nominee and a three-time All-Conference selection. She was also named All-District twice and was an Academic All-Conference honoree as a senior. Jackson averaged 15 during her junior year and 18 during her senior campaign. She also averaged nine rebounds per game as a senior.
Jackson is one of six newcomers on the women's basketball roster for 2013-14, joining Kaylah Keys, Ashley Fields, Latrice Phelps, Teddy Vincent and Maja Michalska.
