HPU volleyball adds Katie Vincent for 2013

Head coach Jason Oliver of the High Point University volleyball team has signed Katie Vincent to a National Letter of Intent, he announced Monday. Vincent is a middle blocker who played the last two seasons at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah.

“Katie is exactly what assistant coach Jake Hong and I are looking for in an HPU volleyball player,” Oliver said. “She has an unbelievable work ethic and the desire to be great, along with a great athletic approach to the game. Katie has the character that we look for in every player and I really look forward to her rubbing off on this team and this program in the future.”

Vincent was a two-sport athlete at Snow College where she played two seasons of volleyball and spent one season on the women's basketball team. The 6-foot-1 middle blocker tallied 316 kills and 142 blocks in two seasons at Snow. Vincent helped the Badgers improve from an 8-16 record her freshman year to a 16-9 mark in 2012 with wins over four ranked opponents. Vincent was named to the Scenic West honorable mentions All-Conference team in 2012.

Originally from Brigham City, Utah, Vincent was an All-Region and All-State selection at Box Elder High School.

Vincent joins three other newcomers on the 2013 HPU volleyball team. Val Jeffrey, Megan Kennedy and Crystal Widom all signed NLI's in the fall. They will join a Panther team that went 20-11 in 2012 and knocked off ACC teams Wake Forest and Virginia Tech. High Point returns five starters including All-Big South honorees Kristin Heldt and Annemarie Chin.
