Keys garners third Big South Freshman of the Week honor

Kaylah Keys of the High Point University women's basketball team has been named the Big South Conference Freshman of the Week for a third consecutive week, the league announced on Monday. Keys scored a career-high 26 points while dishing out six assists against Winthrop on Saturday.

Keys was dominant on both ends of the floor against the Eagles, knocking down a career-best five three-pointers, grabbing seven rebounds and swiping three steals in a career-high 37 minutes of action.

This is the third consecutive Big South Freshman of the Week honor for Keys, who won the honor last week after averaging 19.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists against Furman and Longwood. Prior to that, Keys earned the award on Dec. 2 following her then career-high 25 point performance at UNC Greensboro.

Keys, who is now averaging 15.3 points per game on 45.5 percent shooting this season, leads all Big South freshmen in scoring. She also leads Big South rookies in three-pointers per game, averaging 2.1 per contest, while also posting 3.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.

HPU will be back in action on Tuesday as the Panthers take on the University of Alabama-Birmingham. The Panthers will then travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to take on the Tarheels of North Carolina in the Panthers' final non-conference match of the year.
