Women's soccer kicks off "Score a Goal, Save a Life"

The High Point University women's soccer team announced on Wednesday that it has teamed up with Malaika for Life (www.malaikaforlife.org) for their "Score a Goal, Save a Life" campaign for the 2012 season. For every goal scored by HPU this season a bracelet will be purchased from Malaika for Life.

“I have had the pleasure of knowing Kristen Kenney, the founder of Malaika for Life, since I coached her as an 11-year old,” women's soccer head coach Marty Beall said. “Her story really touched me and it really touched our players. Everybody should find an organization to help and we made a commitment to partner with this organization. We are very excited to have the opportunity to help save lives in an area of the world most of us will never be able to see.”

Malaika for Life is a non-profit organization created to provide hope and opportunity to victims of malaria. The organization's goal is simple - buy a bracelet, save a life. The organization is a group of volunteers working to end malaria with the sale of bracelets to raise money. The funds raised are used to purchase and deliver life-saving malaria medicines in Tanzania, Africa & provide an income for the women makers of the bracelets, many of whose lives have been impacted by HIV/AIDS.

Founded in 2009 by malaria survivor Kristen Kenney, MALAIKA FOR LIFE is a grassroots initiative that focuses on ending malaria in Africa, but has grown to become a powerful program that invests in improving the quality of life in Tanzania through entrepreneurship initiatives and micro-financing opportunities for local women.
