The High Point University men's track & field team finished regular-season competition with the Aggie Classic at North Carolina A&T and the Wolfpack Last Chance Qualifier at NC State on Sunday. Senior
Alex Fisher was the Panthers' top finisher, taking ninth in the 110-meter hurdles at the Aggie Classic.
Fisher placed ninth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.77. He had run 14.89 in the preliminaries. Fisher's season-best was 14.68 at the Raleigh Relays on March 30. It was Fisher's final race for HPU. He will attend graduate school and compete for DePaul next year.
Sophomore
Evan Emery had his final tuneup for the NCAA East Preliminary, competing in the 100-meter dash on Sunday at the Aggie Classic. Emery finished the preliminaries with a time of 10.62 and came in 14th in the final with a time of 10.75. He placed fifth in his heat.
On Sunday at the Wolfpack Last Chance Qualifier, senior
Jevin Monds placed 27th in the 1,500-meter with a time of 4:00.66.
As of Monday morning, the Panthers had three athletes in position to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary, which runs May 24-26 at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla. The top 48 entrants qualify for the preliminary, with the top 12 finishers moving on to the NCAA Final in Des Moines, Iowa, in June.
Emery ranked 17th in the East in the 100-meter dash with his season-best time of 10.28. He also ranked 30th in the 200-meter dash but will not compete in that event. Junior
Jacob Smith ranked 18th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with his time of 8:54.56 from the Big South Championship. Smith's time of 14:01.66 in the 5,000-meter would also qualify him for that event, but he will concentrate on the steeplechase.
Freshman
Christian Spaulding will make his first NCAA appearance in the javelin, as he is ranked 40th with his season-best throw of 64.45 (211-5). Junior
Dakota Peachee is on the bubble in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as he is ranked 50th with his season-best time of 9:02.70. If two athletes ahead of him don't enter the meet, Peachee would move into position to compete.
