Sophomores Audrey Malloy and Kayleigh Perry of the High Point University women's track & field team collected top ten finishes in the 3,000-meter at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet on Friday in Blacksburg, Va.

“I am very pleased with the performance of both Audrey and Kayleigh tonight,” said head coach Mike Esposito. “Audrey did exactly what we asked her to do; won her heat. It was a very solid night.”

Malloy crushed her personal best in the 3,000-meter, winning her heat in 10:13.25. The sophomore finished sixth overall, beating out Wake Forest freshman Kaitlyn Oliver who finished in 10:14.68. Her previous personal best was 10:38.99 which she ran last year at UNC.

Perry placed ninth in the 3k, finishing the race in 10:18.76. Perry finished fourth in her heat, behind teammate Malloy and two runners from Wake Forest.

The rest of the women's track & field team will run at Kent Taylor Invitational at UNC on Saturday. Events begin at 10 a.m.

“A major theme for the team at UNC will be establishing relay legs for the Big South Championship,” Esposito said. “We want to establish a good time this weekend and figure out who gives us the best chance to compete at the conference meet.”

Manika Gamble will run the first leg of the 4x400 relay. The senior is coming off a record-setting weekend at the UNC Invitational. She set the HPU school record in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.66 and finished second in the 200-meter with a time of 25.43. Emily Fisher, Kaitlin Whittington and Sarah Dorrell will run with Gamble in the relay.

Gamble and Fisher will both compete in the 400-meter as well while Whittington's second event is the triple jump and Dorrell will race the 800-meter. Colleen Hollowood and Kelsey Hinchliffe will also run the 800-meeter.

Freshmen Lauren Blackwell and Krista Willard will represent HPU in the mile.

In the field events, Lynee Pina will compete in the weight throw while Carli Antor, Catelyn Griffin and Veronica Peskosky are in the pole vault.
