Parker earns second Big South Player of the Week honor

Sophomore Cheyenne Parker was named the Big South Choice Hotels Player of the Week on Tuesday after averaging 19 points and 11.0 rebounds per game in wins over Presbyterian College and Winthrop.

Parker shot 65 percent from the field to help lead High Point to a pair of Big South wins.  She helped HPU pick up a 60-53 win over Presbyterian College on Saturday, scoring a team-high 21 points on 69 percent from the floor to go along with nine boards, eight blocks and three steals.

Two days later against Winthrop, Parker stayed hot as she connected on 60 percent from the floor to finish with 17 points in the win over the Eagles.  The forward also ripped down 13 rebounds and posted five blocks and two steals to give the Panthers sole possession of second-place in the League standings.  Parker's five blocks against the Eagles give her 99 for the season which breaks the Big South single-season record previously held by Kelli Darden of Radford.

This is the second Big South Player of the Week honor for Parker this season after previously winning the award on Jan. 24. It is High Point's third Big South Player of the week honor this season as senior Shamia Brown was also named Player of the Week on Nov. 15.

High Point enters the final weekend of the regular season with a 16-11 overall record and an 11-5 record in the Big South. The Panthers' 11 conference wins is tied for the most HPU has ever achieved in a season. High Point will wrap up the season with road games at Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville this weekend before returning to the Millis Center for the 2012 Big South Women's Championship.
