Sophomore Cheyenne Parker was named the Big South Choice Hotels Player of the Week on Tuesday after averaging 18 points and 19.5 rebounds per game in wins over Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern.

Parker shot 78 percent from the field in the two games to lead her squad to a pair of Big South wins.  The center set a new HPU Div. I single-game record with 22 rebounds against Coastal Carolina, the second-most ever by a player in a Big South conference game. She also scored 14 points on 72 percent shooting and blocked a career-high eight shots against the Chanticleers. Two days later against Charleston Southern, Parker stayed hot as she poured in 22 points on 9-11 shooting.  She also pulled down 17 boards, recorded four blocks and came away with four steals in the win.  

This is the first Big South Player of the Week honor for Parker in her HPU career and the second of the season for HPU. Senior Shamia Brown was named Player of the Week on Nov. 15 after scoring 29 points at VCU. Parker set a Big South record last season with seven Freshman of the Week awards.

High Point is 12-6 overall and 7-0 in the Big South, tying its best-ever start in conference play. The Panthers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 28, when they travel to Rock Hill, S.C., to take on Winthrop University at 1 p.m.
