High Point University recently opened a new locker room for the women's lacrosse team in the Steele Sports Center. The renovation was funded through the Panther Club with a large portion of the donations coming from the families of student-athletes.
"Being able to see this project move from the design phase to the construction phase to nearly complete has been exciting and we are very pleased with the locker room so far," said HPU head coach Lyndsey Boswell. "With just a few more details to add, we are looking forward to seeing the finished product."
The women's lacrosse locker room is located on the upper level of the Steele Sports Center where the men's soccer locker room was formerly located. The renovations created an impressive area that includes custom wooden lockers, custom stick racks, carpeting and lighting.
The team is still fundraising to add audio and video equipment, including three flat-screen TVs that will be used for video breakdown, as well as wall graphics. Supporters may name a locker with a pledge of $4,000 toward the women's lacrosse program. Anyone interested in donating to High Point University Athletics should contact Associate Athletic Director Rob Aycock at (336) 841-4615 or

"The women's lacrosse locker room came out great, and we owe our thanks to Holbrook & Associates, the Panther Club, the families of our student-athletes and everyone else who made this project a success," said HPU Athletic Director Craig Keilitz. "We are really looking forward to the beginning of varsity lacrosse at High Point University and this project was a great way to get things started."
High Point University begins its first season of varsity women's lacrosse in February. HPU will play in the National Lacrosse Conference (NLC), which will be in its third year in the spring of 2011. Current members of the NLC are Davidson, Detroit, Howard, Jacksonville, Liberty, Longwood and Presbyterian. Longwood is two-time defending NLC champ.
