High Point University head men's golf coach J. B. White announced on Friday the team will take part in 11 tournaments during the 2010-11 campaign. The Panthers will travel throughout the southeast United States, including to nearby Winston-Salem, N.C., where they will attempt to defend their WSSU Invitational title.
“The men's golf team is playing in three of the same great tournaments as in the past and two new tournaments hosted by William and Mary and one by Davidson this fall, White said. “We look forward to the competition and are hoping to play well. With the help of some senior players and maybe some new additions we feel we will be very competitive and can't wait to get started.”
HPU will open its season at the Manor Intercollegiate on Sept. 13-14. The event will be held at the xxx in Farmville, Va. It is the third straight year that HPU has begun its season at the Manor Intercollegiate.
Next High Point returns to Sunset Beach, N.C., to play in the Sea Trails on Sept. 25-27. It will be the sixth-straight season that HPU has played in the event and the Panthers will look to improve on a 12th place finish in the event last season.
HPU will then play in two tournaments during the month of October, the Joe Agee Invitational on Oct. 9-10 which will be hosted by William & Mary at the Colonial Heritage Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va.,, and the Davidson College Invitational on Oct. 18-19 at the River Run Country Club in Davidson, N.C.
The Panthers will wrap-up the fall season on Nov. 1-2 at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate in Cashiers, N.C. The event is hosted by Western Carolina and will be played at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley. It is the second consecutive season that High Point has played the Hummingbird as the Panthers finished tied for 13th at the event last season.
