The High Point University women's lacrosse team begins its inaugural season in the spring of 2011. When the team arrives in the fall, the players will have a newly renovated locker room in the Steele Sports Center.
"The women's lacrosse locker room will be among the nicest in the country and will really set us apart from our competition," said HPU head coach Lyndsey Boswell. "We are grateful to the families of our incoming student-athletes as well as the Panther Club for funding this project, and we are still fundraising for the finishing touches. The High Point University campus and our stadium are awesome, and now this will be a great addition just for women's lacrosse."
The HPU women's lacrosse locker room will be located on the upper level of the Steele Sports Center where the men's soccer locker room was formerly located. The renovations will create an impressive area that includes custom wooden lockers and state-of-the-art video equipment. The room is designed so that the whole team or small groups can easily review video.
Supporters may name a locker with a pledge of $4,000. Anyone interested in donating to High Point University Athletics should contact Associate Athletic Director Rob Aycock at (336) 841-4615 or raycock@highpoint.edu.
Boswell and assistant coaches Whitney Michele and Megan Cassara have completed recruiting for the upcoming year and are preparing for HPU's first varsity season. The team will play several exhibition games in the fall before beginning varsity play in the spring.
High Point University will jump into the National Lacrosse Conference (NLC), which will be in its third year in the spring of 2011. Current members of the NLC are Davidson, Detroit, Howard, Jacksonville, Liberty, Longwood and Presbyterian. Longwood is two-time defending NLC champ.
