Zach Haile (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary) and
Scott Glover (Monroe, N.C./Charlotte Christian) were both named to summer league All-Star teams and are two of 11 High Point University baseball players who are playing in collegiate summer leagues.
Haile was named to the 2010 Florida League All-Star Team after an impressive first half of the summer season with the Sanford River Rats. He was the starting pitcher in the All-Star game and pitched two scoreless innings, striking out two batters. He has a 4-1 record for Sanford, posting a 2.13 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 38 innings of work.
Glover is hitting .347 for the Statesville Owls in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League. Glover was named to the SCBL All-Star team and the Owls begin playoff action tonight. The Owls (21-17) earned the No. 2 seed from the SCBL's East Division and will host No. 3 seed Morganton (24-17). Glover has 25 hits, including six doubles and 13 RBI in 23 games this summer.
The Alexandria Aces have
Mike Gragilla (Charlotte, N.C./North Mecklenburg) and
Kyle Wigmore (Raleigh, N.C./Sanderson) on the roster. Gragilla is hitting .191 with three doubles and eight runs scored. Wigmore pitched 12 1/3 innings for the Aces, allowing just nine hits and three earned runs in nine appearances. He posted nine strikeouts and three walks.
Al Yevoli (Palm Coast, Fla./Flagler Palm Coast) is pitching for the Staunton Braves, posting a 1-1 record with one save in 12 appearances. He has a 5.00 ERA for the Valley League team, walking seven and striking out 33 in 27 innings. On June 25 he pitched 1-1/3 scoreless innings and was one of four pitchers to combine for a 2-0 shutout win over the Haymarket Senators.
Drew Dades (Maitland, Fla./Bishop Moore) and
Mike Caldwell (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Christian) are both pitching for the Luray Wranglers, the first place team in the Valley League. Dades is 1-0 with one save and a 1.64 ERA in seven relief appearances. In 11 innings of work he has allowed just two earned runs with eight strikeouts. Caldwell also has a 1-0 record for the Wranglers. In five relief appearances he has a 4.70 ERA, walking just two batters in 7-2/3 innings.
Steven Schils (Cocoa, Fla./Cocoa) has pitched 8-1/3 innings for the Kernersville Bulldogs, with a 14.04 ERA and 15 strikeouts.
Robbie Gilles (Geneva, N.Y./DeSales) has started 17 games for the Watertown Wizards in the New York Collegiate Baseball League. He is hitting .302 with two home runs and seven RBI. Gilles also has 10 walks and seven runs scored.
Sal Pezzino (South Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) is hitting .456 in 18 games for the Freehold Clippers in the Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League. He has two doubles and 12 runs scored this season.
Steven Roche (Yonkers, N.Y./Iona Prep) is 0-1 with a 3.32 ERA in 14 games with the Westhampton Aviators. He has allowed seven earned runs in 19 innings with 20 strikeouts.
