Head coach J.B. White of the High Point University men's golf team announced the addition of two recruits for the 2010-11 season on Friday. Drew Peeler and Ben Gjebre have both signed letter of intent to join HPU in the fall.

“It's great to have two young men like Drew and Ben join the HPU men's golf team,” White said. “They both have put up some great numbers in high school and junior golf for their respective areas and I feel they can make a positive impact on an already pretty solid team. I feel they will make a strong contribution both in the classroom and on the course and I look forward to them being here.”

Peeler, from Presbyterian Christian High School, was the 2008 MAIS state champion in Mississippi and finished fourth in the 2010 MAIS state tournament to earn a place on the All-Tournament team. In 2009, Peeler was a member of the MAIS state championship team. Peeler has an average of 73 in state championship tournaments and has recorded a career-low round of 69. He is four-year honor roll member and a member of the National Society of High school scholars.

Gjebre, from Greater Latrobe Senior High School, was a three-year letterwinner and team captain during his senior season in 2010. He was the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League Individual Champion and captained the state team champion and WPIAL team champion in 2009. Gjebre also finished in the top ten at the Individual State Championships with a 36-hole score of 148 in 2009.
The Panthers enjoyed a successful season which saw a tournament championship at the WSSU Invitational and a fifth-place finish at the Big South Championship. The Panthers had seven players finish in the top 10 at the WSSU Invitational including sophomore Curtis Brotherton who shot a two-round 143 to earn his first collegiate individual medal. At the Big South Championship, the Panthers sat in third through the first two days before ultimately finishing fifth. Both Brotherton and junior DJ Dougherty had rounds of 69, making it the first time that HPU has had two players break 70 in a round at the Big South Tournament.
