United Soccer League announced the USL Second Division Team of the Week, honoring Pittsburgh Riverhound and former High Point University midfielder
Matt Tuttle after he helped lead his team to a 2-0 win over the Real Maryland Monarchs in his first career start on Saturday, June 26.
“We are very excited that Matt was able to achieve the honor of his first career start in the professional ranks,” HPU men's soccer head coach
Dustin Fonder said. “That is always a memorable day for a player and it could not have been more fitting than for him to have a good game and win team of the week honors on that day. We are excited for Matt and look forward to following him as he continues on his career path.”
Tuttle, who had come off the bench as a substitute in his first two games, played the full 90 minutes and controlled the midfield to help Pittsburgh to its third win of the season. Tuttle played a big role on the second goal of the contest as he pulled his defender towards the middle, allowing Riverhound fullback Sterling Flunder to go on an overlapping run and score.
The Riverhounds are now 3-3-5 on the season and will look to continue their climb up the USL Second Division standings when they host the Charlotte Eagles on Friday, July 2. The Eagles have 15 points on the year and sit just one point ahead of Pittsburgh.
