June 10, 2010
Megan Cassara has joined the High Point University women’s lacrosse coaching staff as an assistant coach, head coach Lyndsey Boswell announced Thursday. Cassara played four years as a defender at the University of Maryland before beginning her coaching career as an assistant at George Mason for the last two seasons.
“We are really excited about the addition of Megan Cassara to our staff,” Boswell said. “Her knowledge on the defensive end, and experience as a goalie coach, mixed with her passion and work ethic are a perfect fit for us. Assistant coach Whitney Michele and I have worked hard this year in building the foundation for our programs future, having another person will help us share responsibilities and provide the players with position specific coaching and attention.”
Cassara will join Boswell and Michele as the coaching staff for the first season of lacrosse at High Point University. Cassara will work primarily with the goalkeepers and the defense in HPU’s inaugural season. She will also be responsible for the strength & conditioning of the team as well as organizing travel and film exchange and ordering equipment.
“I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the coaching staff,” Cassara said. I am looking forward to working with Lyndsey and Whitney and helping HPU lacrosse make a mark on the Division I level by bringing all of our years of coaching experience together to build a strong and successful program. I was very impressed with the structure and the vision for success of the entire athletic department.”
Cassara spent the last two seasons as a coach at George Mason, working with the defensive unit and goalkeepers. She is also the Co-Director of the Trio Lacrosse Camp on the campus of George Mason. The camp runs two sessions in the summer as well as a session every Sunday during the winter. Cassara also works at the Future Stars camp in Long Island, N.Y. and the Lax N Soco Camp run by Boswell in South County, Md.
Before beginning her coaching career, Cassara was a four-year defender at the University of Maryland. As a senior in 2008, she started 18 games and set career highs in caused turnovers, draw controls and ground balls, helping the Terrapins to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship.
Cassara graduated from Maryland with a degree in family science. She also served as a volunteer coach for the Herndon High School girl’s lacrosse team while she worked on her degree. Originally from Fairfax, Va., Cassara graduated from W.T.
