Pablo Rosario and freshman
Mike Mercurio of the High Point University baseball team were named to the 2010 Big South Conference All-Tournament team, the league announced Saturday. Rosario and Mercurio helped HPU to two wins in the tournament, over No. 3 Radford and No. 2 Liberty.
Rosario went 4-5 in HPU's win over Radford in the first game of the tournament, scoring three runs and getting hit by a pitch. He graduates third all-time in career hit by pitches with 50. Rosario finished the Conference Tournament 5-17 with five runs scored and two RBI with two walks.
Mercurio hit .533 in HPU's four tournament games, going 8-15 with five RBI and four runs scored. He also hit his first career home run in HPU's loss to No. 1 Coastal Carolina. The freshman shortstop stole two bases, had five sacrifice hits and one walk. He had the game-winning RBI in the Panther's 2-1 win over No. 2 Liberty and had three multi-hit games in the tournament.
High Point finished the season 31-29 (15-12), setting the program record for overall and conference wins in a Division I season. HPU had two wins in the Big South Tournament for only the second time in school history.
