The High Point University baseball team heads to the beach this weekend as the Panthers meet 18th-ranked Coastal Carolina in an important Big South Conference series at Watson Stadium/Vrooman Field.The Panthers (18-27, 8-7 Big South) and Chanticleers (38-11, 12-3) will square off in a three-game series beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday night. The teams are also scheduled to play on Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

After falling behind early, the High Point University baseball team made a late charge before falling 9-7 to Longwood University on Wednesday night at Coy O. Wllliard Sr Stadium.With the loss, HPU slipped to 18-27 on the season, while Longwood upped its yearly mark to 22-23. The victory by the Lancers gave them a season split in their two game series with the Panthers with both road teams earning a win.

McDonald's-HPU Athlete of the Week

The McDonald's/HPU Athlete of the Week for April 28-May 4 is senior baseball player RANDY SCHWARTZ. An infielder from Kleinburg, Ontario, Randy helped lead the Panthers to a split of a pair of road games at 18th-ranked NC State over the weekend. He went 4-for-9 (.444) at the plate finishing with three doubles. In HPU's 9-6 victory, Randy sparked a ninth inning rally with a two-run double that proved to be the game winning hit. For the week, Randy boasted a .778 slugging percentage. Already this season, Randy has become the all-time leading hit leader in HPU baseball history. McDonald's and High Point congratulate Randy on his accomplishments for the week.
