High Point University and the HPU baseball team will host the 2012 Big South Baseball Tournament at Williard Stadium beginning Tuesday, May 22, and running through Saturday May 26. It is the first time in school history HPU will be the site of the Big South Baseball Championship.
“It is a great honor to host the Big South Conference Baseball Tournament at High Point University,” said High Point Athletics Director
Craig Keilitz. “It is exciting to give our fans the opportunity to watch great baseball and experience a fantastic atmosphere throughout the week. We are committed to putting on a first-class tournament.”
This will be the first year the Big South uses an eight-team, double elimination format starting on Tuesday, with a single elimination championship game on Saturday. Ticket information will become available closer to the start of the season.
“We are very excited to host the Big South Championship for the first time at High Point,” said HPU baseball head coach
Craig Cozart. “This will provide a tremendous opportunity for our players and fans to experience a great tournament atmosphere on the campus of High Point University.”
Williard Stadium saw significant additions in 2005, including 501 custom purple seats, a full press box and hospitality suite, restrooms, concession stand and lights. In January 2009, the field was upgraded with a new warning track and a Field Turf halo with the HPU logo behind home plate. In preparation for the 2010 season, the fence in right center field was lowered to allow spectators to watch the game from the outfield.
